BW CIO: How are global security trends influencing the Indian security market?
Sanjeev Gulati: With the rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT), the security trends are no longer getting more secure but smarter. The boundary of security applications has been broken by the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

Moreover, the video analysis from video surveillance system will drive the growth of big data, transforming the security demands to business demands.
Video surveillance, fire alarms and protection, access control, intrusion alarm, public address and emergency evacuation systems are some of the important safety and security building blocks for a smart city. This will lead the transformation of global and India security market.
BW CIO: Tell us something about role of the security surveillance camera in the Government's Smart City initiative.
Sanjeev Gulati: India is firmly traversing on the path to develop its first ‘100 Smart Cities’. The ambitious government project has been under the radar ever since the government announced its vision of developing smart cities for India, and investing $1.2 billion to create them.
Cities can be termed as smart when it has plentiful and strong human capital, social capital, and ICT infrastructure. The progressing neo-middle class, with aspirations of better living, are not willing to be accommodated in the existing city structure. Hence, the need to develop new cities to accommodate the burgeoning population is the need of the hour.
Since smart cities strongly hinges on modern (ICT) communication infrastructure and digitization, apart from other aspects such as fuel sustainable economic development and astute management of natural resources, security becomes important.
The collection and aggregation of information, its analysis, storage and distribution, IT and allied services will widely be used for communicating between surveillance systems, transportation sectors, control centers and service providers for providing traffic management, building management, security services, etc.
It is no wonder that the installation and deployment of smart IP video surveillance solutions will become indispensable in smart cities. Furthermore, we will also witness that the application and importance of video surveillance will shift from just security to tracking, monitoring, crime-prevention, disaster-prevention, calamity prevention, among many others.

BW CIO: What is the total market share of VIVOTEK in security space?
Sanjeev Gulati: As per a recent report published by 2016 A&S security 50, VIVOTEK is ranked 19th amongst the top 50 security surveillance. As per the report, the total revenue of the brand was pegged at $104.8 million in 2014. Post that, the brand witnessed a hike of 14.9 percent, which led to total revenue of $120.4 million in 2015.
BW CIO: What are the latest projects implemented by VIVOTEK in India?
Sanjeev Gulati: We have successfully transformed security arrangements for many industry big wigs and smaller companies and establishments. Some of our successful business associations in India are Pepsico bottle plant and JW Marriot, Mussoorie luxury hotel, and Cosmos banks.
Over and above that, we were chosen by the International Road Dynamic Inc., the world’s leading traffic management integrator, for an Indian toll station project. VIVOTEK also co-works with local partner to complete the traffic monitoring projects in Indore city.
BW CIO: What are the latest products and solutions launched by VIVOTEK in India?
Sanjeev Gulati: We launched the H.265 video compression solutions, including 2- to 5-megapixel network cameras, network video recorders, and video management software.
VIVOTEK introduced the Smart Stream II technology to achieve greater cost-effectiveness. By adopting VIVOTEK’s Smart Stream II and H.265 technology, users will benefit from reduced bandwidth and data storage demands by up to 80 percent more than systems employing H.264.
All of this allows VIVOTEK to reach a new milestone in IP surveillance.
