Video Analytics Makes Network Camera/ IP Camera most Important Video Resources: VIVOTEK

VIVOTEK has developed comprehensive IP surveillance solutions. Now, the boundary of security applications has been broken by the IoT technologies.

Sanjeev Gulati, Country Manager – India & SAARC, VIVOTEK, talks about the video analysis from video surveillance system will drive the growth of big data.

BW CIO: How are global security trends influencing the Indian security market?

Sanjeev Gulati: With the rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT), the security trends are no longer getting more secure but smarter. The emergence of video analytics makes the network camera/ IP camera becomes the most important video resources. The boundary of security applications has been broken by the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

The demand for multiple mobile applications, connected homes and cars, and unmanned devices, like drones and robots, is also influencing the development of ‘traditional’ security products and technologies. Moreover, the video analysis from video surveillance system will drive the growth of big data, transforming the security demands to business demands.

Video surveillance, fire alarms and protection, access control, intrusion alarm, public address and emergency evacuation systems are some of the important safety and security building blocks for a smart city. This will lead the transformation of global and India security market.

BW CIO: Tell us something about role of the security surveillance camera in the Government's Smart City initiative.

Sanjeev Gulati: India is firmly traversing on the path to develop its first ‘100 Smart Cities’. The ambitious government project has been under the radar ever since the government announced its vision of developing smart cities for India, and investing $1.2 billion to create them.

Cities can be termed as smart when it has plentiful and strong human capital, social capital, and ICT infrastructure. The progressing neo-middle class, with aspirations of better living, are not willing to be accommodated in the existing city structure. Hence, the need to develop new cities to accommodate the burgeoning population is the need of the hour.

Since smart cities strongly hinges on modern (ICT) communication infrastructure and digitization, apart from other aspects such as fuel sustainable economic development and astute management of natural resources, security becomes important.

The collection and aggregation of information, its analysis, storage and distribution, IT and allied services will widely be used for communicating between surveillance systems, transportation sectors, control centers and service providers for providing traffic management, building management, security services, etc.

It is no wonder that the installation and deployment of smart IP video surveillance solutions will become indispensable in smart cities. Furthermore, we will also witness that the application and importance of video surveillance will shift from just security to tracking, monitoring, crime-prevention, disaster-prevention, calamity prevention, among many others.

It is highly important to cater to the safety and security needs of commercial and residential establishments, railway stations, metro rail, airports, city markets and shopping malls; schools and colleges etc.

Things like smart IP Video surveillance devices, fire alarms and protection, access control, intrusion alarm, public address and emergency evacuation systems are some of the important safety and security building blocks for a smart city.

Sega is launching a new mobile gaming

Sega is launching a new mobile gaming initiative called Sega Forever, the long-lived publisher announced today. Under that banner, the company plans to bring loads of games from all eras of its 30-year history to Android and iOS devices as free-to-play apps. While all the games will share some universal trappings, they will be distinct releases rather than multiple parts of a larger Sega Forever app. They’ll come with ads built in—a common sight in free mobile games—and it’ll cost you $2 to remove them from any given game. The service is starting up tomorrow, June 22, with five Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games: Sonic The Hedgehog, Comix Zone, Phantasy Star II, Kid Chameleon. After that, Sega promises more games will be released every two weeks.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sega’s Mike Evans, who’s credited with leading the creation of Sega Forever, laid out his vision for the service. Borrowing a page out of Nintendo’s mobile strategy, Sega hopes that releasing these games on more accessible platforms and playing on people’s nostalgia will revive interest in classic series, driving players to new versions, like the recently released Crazy Taxi: Gazillionaire, or even proving there’s enough demand for the company to pursue similar resurrections. As it just so happens, Sega recently proclaimed that one of its big goals moving forward is the revival of long-dormant series.
While all of the Sega Forever apps will be reworked to control via touchscreen, according to a Sega press release, they will be a mix of “ports” that have been specifically re-engineered to run on mobile devices and “official emulations” running the original games inside a program that simulates the console on which they were released. All Sega Forever games will also include support for Bluetooth controllers, so you don’t have to make Comix Zone even harder by trying to beat dudes up with crummy touchscreen buttons.
Evans also didn’t rule out taking Sega Forever beyond this initial mobile model. He mentioned that “about 90 percent” of the games are running on the Unity engine, a piece of software that’s used by tons of developers to make games for just about every available platform, and that, assuming the Mobile Application roll out goes well, Sega Forever could come to PCs, Facebook, or consoles. Evans even mentioned being open to the possibility of turning it into a subscription service—presumably without the ads—for set-top boxes, like Apple TV. It’s about time people realized just how far ahead of its time e Sehga Cthannel was.
